Tonic Water has Quinine

Hello, I am new to this forum. I just found out that my kitten, Jenny, has FIP, but don't know which. I am fairly sure she has the wet form, unfortunately. Anyways, my boyfriend researched Quinine at the Cornell Veterinary School while finding out more information regarding FIP.

It would seem that something as simple, easily available and inexpensive as Tonic Water (what one uses in the Gin and Tonic) contains about 10% of the human dosage in Quinine. At this point in time, if Jenny has pretty much been given a "death" sentence, it wouldn't hurt to try it - let it go completely flat first and give it to your cats as a prophylaxis.

I have to do something because I've done many rescues of kittens in my neighborhood. This discovery of my little girl having FIP has moved me to take a proactive approach so that the others don't get this sick as well. I am aware than they may carriers, since none have shown signs or symptoms, and I pray they don't ever do so.

Heck, give my cat the tonic and I'll gladly drink the Gin. :-P

Hi i suspect my 16 year old cat has FIP.
Googled her symptoms and here i am. Find you post interersting and wondered how you are doing with your wee cat.
Like you say it can't hurt, anyway hope all is well. With all your kindness to cats you deserve it.

Unfortunately, she did pass away. It was a very heart-wrenching time for me. I just couldn't stop crying. I am so glad we have moved out of this neighborhood - this was planned long ago. It seems this FIP has killed off many, many cats, including the n eighbor down the street who had non-feral rescues. But I am now a few states away; I brought all 13 of my rescued furbabies with me. They traveled well. They're strictly indoors, too. I've lost too many outdoor cats to getting run over, predation and disease. I have no idea if any of 'em are carriers.....I pray they are not.

So sorry to hear about Jenny my heart goes out to you they are so precious. I hope you take comfort from the love you gave her.
I am Still worried about Winnie she is very old. When i got her from the Cats Protection League at 7mths she was totally feral and had kittens 6 weeks later so not the best start in life but because of her 5 kittens she had to trust us and turned into the sweetest lovelest little person.

13 cats wow bet they keep you on your toes, i am a slave to 5. Beautiful people arent they i wish you many healthy happy years together in your new home.x
