Hello, I am new to this forum. I just found out that my kitten, Jenny, has FIP, but don't know which. I am fairly sure she has the wet form, unfortunately. Anyways, my boyfriend researched Quinine at the Cornell Veterinary School while finding out more information regarding FIP.
It would seem that something as simple, easily available and inexpensive as Tonic Water (what one uses in the Gin and Tonic) contains about 10% of the human dosage in Quinine. At this point in time, if Jenny has pretty much been given a "death" sentence, it wouldn't hurt to try it - let it go completely flat first and give it to your cats as a prophylaxis.
I have to do something because I've done many rescues of kittens in my neighborhood. This discovery of my little girl having FIP has moved me to take a proactive approach so that the others don't get this sick as well. I am aware than they may carriers, since none have shown signs or symptoms, and I pray they don't ever do so.
Heck, give my cat the tonic and I'll gladly drink the Gin. :-P
